100% Macedon Ranges fruit, super cool climate this un-oaked Chardonnay is all about the vineyards in this unique part of the world we choose to grow grapes in – it’s vibrant and zippy - and that is its fun. Think complex citrus, cucumber, green melon and white spice. The palate has plenty of texture and interest with crisp acidity and freshness.

Partially whole bunch pressed and partially crushed bunches into the press with stalks. Pressed to tank for a short cold settle before racking to a new tank for fermentation. Fermentation took place over 3 weeks at cool temperatures so as to retain delicate aromatics. After primary fermentation was complete we allowed a partial malolactic fermentation. No fining, minimal sulfites, sterile filtration. Bottled - June 2017.
Vineyard, Vintage Notes
After a wet and cold winter and following spring in 2016, our Musk Estate vineyard got off to a slow start, with budburst occurring two weeks later than usual in late October. Consequent rain events during the growing season and mild temperatures ensured a long and slow ripening season. For our Musk estate vineyard, harvest was at the start of May – more than a month after last year’s. Baume’s were modest, acids high, flavours lean and quality impressive.
The Passing Clouds Musk Estate vineyard is now 19 years old with ten acres planted in total. The vines are in balance and have reached maturity. The vineyard is on a very cool site with a top elevation of 742m. It is north facing with volcanic soils. The modified wide T trellis gives us good penetration of sunlight and wind, reducing disease pressure and improving vine balance and its ability to ripen the fruit evenly.
The Glenlyon Estate vineyard is located 10 minutes to our north in Glenlyon and is 9 acres in total with plantings beginning in 1996. The vineyard is on volcanic basalt, quartz and clay soils at an altitude of 500m.
