Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir 2019

Over the years Cameron Leith has developed strong relationships with several growers of Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir, which allows us to make this wine from this region, where typically, demand for premium Pinot Noir far outstrips supply. The wine has been created to showcase what Macedon does best – premium Pinot Noir. This one however, doesn’t have the price tag.

Cleaveland, Denver, Kyneton Ridge, Lord Malmsbury are four of the highest quality Pinot Noir sites in the Macedon Ranges. All hand tended and sitting at elevation, they showcase the best that Macedon has to offer with cool climate acidity, as well as ¬¬¬fragrant yet intense fruit.

A slightly warmer than average season with mostly dry conditions throughout. 2019 hit the sweet spot between 2018 and 2017. A happy spring, leading into summer with intermittent freshening rainfall, before a pleasantly warm autumn allowed for pristine ripening.

Winemaking

Fermented as individual blocks. Approximately 10% whole bunches across all ferments. A short cold soak of three days before inoculation. Hand plunged twice daily until pressing after 14 days on skins. 100% French hogsheads, 10% new, for 6 months of maturation before bottling.
